I used to think I didn't like figs. Of course my only experience eating figs were the ones found mushed between layers of Fig Newton. So, much to my surprise, I found that in season, fresh figs were fabulous (especially with a little goat cheese and honey drizzled on top).
Strawberry jam is the favorite with the guys around my house, but I like to branch out a little more. The combination of lemon and fig intrigued me, so I gave New Canaan Farm's Lemon Fig Jam (available at Central Market) a try and it is pretty delicious on toast in the morning.
Now if I can just hold out until fig season...and this year I plan to outsmart the birds who stole all of our figs last year!
